Can somebody set this straight for me??? Honestly, I need somebody to help me with this.

First, a little build up to my question.
I've had my dealings with "popular" Sonic artists here on DA, many are good, fair and will kindly reply to the notes/comments you write to them. ...Others, not so much. They seem unapproachable and arrogant, cut off from the rest of the fandum as though they are above us all. I'm telling you this for a reason. Have you ever had a picture made or commissioned with one of your fan characters and a "popular" fan character done, only for the popular FC owner to say "You didn't ask my permission to use my character"? Well, I sadly had it happen to me. When this happened I originally believe I was in the wrong, but after a long time thinking about it. Was I really?

Plenty of these "popular" Sonic artists have gotten to where they are by drawing Sonic related art. ....Without permission from SEGA. I've seen Amy Rose, turned into a robot, murdered, about to be eaten, beaten up, the list goes on... ALL without permission from SEGA. Yet this is OK and is perfectly alright, but if you draw your FC with another persons FC without permission you are in the wrong.

------

So tell me please if you can. If others can draw official Sonic characters doing all sorts of terrible and out of character things without permission from SEGA or Archie, why should I or anybody ask permission to use somebody's non-official Sonic Fan Character?

------

I doubt any of you will be able to answer me, and that most of you will ignore this Journal entry completely. If you have the time Copy and paste this on your account. Go ahead, you don't need my permission. See if somebody can answer this question.

I think SEGA and Archie dont care about 'hate art' or anything else because its actually Legal to use copyrighted characters in a sense of parody. If artist claim to make fun of it, they can get away with it.

Plus, I remember hearing somewhere at a lot of anime companies dont sue the people who make hentai of their beloved characters because its like a free form of advertisement.

Heck, I wish I was popular enough to have people draw my fan characters. But, I understand it being a little unsettling finding out somebody used my character and I wasnt asked-although this has happened with some art I posted before, I dont get angry, I just nicely ask to credit me for the character design.
